The family of a 12-year-old Florida girl who committed suicide by jumping to her death at an old cement plant says that she was continuously bullied by girls at school and via the Internet. According to Rebecca Ann Sedwick's family, they notified Crystal Lake Middle School about the bullying and their complaints were then handed over to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

In order to help combat the bullying, Rebecca’s family began home-schooling her in February, deleted her Facebook account and then had her start school somewhere else for this academic year.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said during a press conference that the school system and law enforcement are not at fault for Rebecca’s suicide and that cyber-bullies encouraged her to kill herself, The Orlando Sentinel reported.

More than a dozen young girls are being investigated for bullying Rebecca via the Internet. She jumped to her death less than one mile from her home.

About 200 people attended a candlelight vigil that was held for Rebecca on Wednesday.
