Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 03, 2013

The Scott Rigsby Foundation attended the 2013 Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) National Conference in Orlando, FL on June 28th-June 30th as a sponsor for two of the Boston Marathon bombings victims who suffered loss of limb(s). They and their caretakers attended the conference as part of The Scott Rigsby Foundation’s Aid for Boston campaign, which is designed to impact the individuals who suffered loss of limb from the Boston Marathon tragedy at a personal level.

As a result of the bombing on April 15, 2013, many individuals suffered loss of limb in addition to other physical injuries and will endure the emotional trauma from this experience for years to come. Their lives and the lives of their families are forever changed. The foundation seeks to provide hope and healing for these victims and their families as we work together to achieve their “Unthinkable” dreams along the journey ahead.

“Getting on the plane together to travel to the ACA National Conference was therapy for these patients and a major step toward full community reintegration,” stated Dr. David Crandell, Medical Director for Amputee Programs at the Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston. “The conference provided the perfect venue for them to learn about the services available to them, gain additional physical therapy skills, and to interact with peers who have suffered limb loss and gone on to achieve great success.”

The ACA National Conference is the largest gathering of amputees worldwide with approximately 900 individuals in attendance. Over the course of the conference, attendees benefitted from lectures on many aspects of healing—emotionally, socially and physically. Physical activities included rock wall climbing, dancing, swimming and yoga.

“We are honored to provide support to these brave individuals and are inspired by their courage and fortitude,” said Scott Johnson, Executive Director of The Scott Rigsby Foundation. “The ACA is an incredible organization and their national conference was a great opportunity for the patients and their caretakers to learn from each other and further enable the healing process.”

Scott Rigsby was the Gala keynote speaker, sharing his inspirational message to “Do the Unthinkable.” Scott delivered a powerful message to motivate the audience and encourage them to overcome obstacles in pursuit of their own personal finish lines.
