A woman who was just steps away from an overnight shooting in downtown Orlando spoke exclusively to Local 6.
"We heard gunshots. It was about eight of them," she said.
The woman had just left the Beacham nightclub at 46 N. Orange Ave. She said the experience was terrifying and asked that Local 6 not identify her.
"We felt the vibrations in our body. Like I said, we didn't know what direction it was coming from, we just felt it, and our instinct was to duck," she said.
Police said Benjamin Bermudez shot up an empty car and pointed his gun at a woman in the Wells Fargo parking lot, just down the street from where Maria Godinez was killed last month.
The 22-year-old was hit by an Orlando officer's stray bullet as officers struggled with a man waving his gun outside the Vixen Bar.
In June, a 20-year-old was hit in the leg as she sat in the back seat of a parked car, steps away from the Orlando Police Department, near Lot 10.
She too had just left a club downtown, and investigators are still looking for that shooter.
"People don’t want to come downtown anymore, and I don't necessarily blame them," said Logan Berkowitz, who owns a bar on Pine Street.
He said the shootings are hurting business.
"These clubs are getting these individuals out when they cause problems. They're then going to the parking lot where they bring weapons," he said.
Mayor Buddy Dyer said he's asked the chief to look into how to better police the area.
"Working with the nightclub owners, we would like to put a little bit more responsibility on them as well to maintain order among their clientele," Dyer said. Reported by Click Orlando 3 hours ago.
