The weather cleared out just in time for the fireworks at the fountain at Lake Eola in downtown Orlando Thursday.

The annual Fireworks by the Fountain at Lake Eola kicked off Thursday afternoon for the Fourth of July holiday.

Jeffrey Ewing and his friends say it was all worth it- sitting in the rain to keep their spot on Lake Eola to see the fireworks.

"Card board boxes, big umbrellas, kind of huddled up together, you know, do what you've got to do," he said. "we're not leaving, you kidding? we're right here -- front row."

Ewing is one of hundreds who waited patiently for the rain to stop, standing under tents, umbrellas, and business awnings to stay dry.

"I don't want to mingle with the crowd, too much, I've got the two kids so it's easy to get out," said Terry Rambarran, who came to the lake to see the fireworks with his family.

Thousands were expected to make it for the festivities at 4 p.m., which included entertainment, beer and wine gardens and children's activities.

Once the rain cleared, the music and fun continued. Reported by Click Orlando 2 hours ago.
