A few Orlando, Florida parents took issue with how local public schools decided to handle student dress-code violations this week.
WJXT reports that during the first week of classes at Lee Middle School, over 75 students were ordered to change out of their clothes and wear shirts that said “I Support Lee MS Dress Code.”
Students wore the shirts for several hours before Superintendent Bill Gordon called the school’s principal and ordered the policy stopped.
A Lee Middle School parents told WJXT that she was irked by the policy. She also doesn’t think first-year principal Cynthia Haupt made a good impression by implementing it.
Click Orlando reports that a nearby high school had a similar rule for students who violated the dress code. At Edgewater High School, students with fashion faux pas were forced to wear bright orange shirts that said “Dress Code.”
Just as he did with Lee Middle School, Superintendent Gordon called Edgewater administration and ordered them to stop the policy. Students at both schools will now be given either school spirit shirts or polos if they violate the dress code. They will also be given the opportunity to have their parents drop off an appropriate change of clothes.
