The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA), the non-profit organization that produces the annual Santa Fe Indian Market® partners with the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC) to bring a special members reception. Santa Fe Indian Market® proudly celebrates the life and work of legendary sculptor Allan Houser as part of the Indian Market Week program of events. The reception will take place at the MIAC on Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 5-7pm.
In celebration of the life and works of the respected sculptor Allan Houser, the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture has installed a sculpture garden entitled Footprints: an inspiration of Allan Houser on June 23, 2014. This member reception and celebration will take place in proximity to the installation. SFIM artists and designers including Artists include: Doug Hyde, Kenneth Johnson, Cliff Fragua, Jesse Monongya, Jackie Larson Bread, Stetson Honyuptewa, Oreland C. Joe, Estella Loretto, Cody Sanderson, Lyndon Tsosie; SFIM Residency Fellows Monte Yellowbird and Luanne Redeye; and top Native designers Orlando Dugi, Jamie Okuma, Bethany Yellowtail, and Sho Sho Esquiro who will showcase some of their stunning new work.
Life of Allan Houser
Allan Houser is regarded as one of the 20th Century's most important artists. Allan's parents, Sam and Blossom Haozous were members of the Chiricahua Apache tribe. Allan Houser’s work is included in the permanent collections of over 70 museums across the United States, Europe and the Far East. His working career spanned six decades, and his influence can be seen in contemporary, modern sculpture and graphic art.
