When Condola Rashad auditioned for the lead in a New York production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, she wasn’t told who had been cast as Romeo. As she was called back for further auditions, she discovered who it was: Orlando Bloom, making his Broadway debut. She met him when they both took part in what is known as a chemistry read to see how the pair worked together; that encounter was enough to convince the producers that they had their Juliet.
